“Sundays are for sauntering.”
If you happen to wander through Ham, a stone’s through from London’s Richmond Park, you may just chance upon the secret gardens of Petersham Nurseries…
Unassuming and wild, this little green sanctuary has long been the retreat of local gardeners and in-the-know foodies alike. It is the perfect spot to while away a few hours beyond London’s usual flurry.
Explore the nursery’s garden shop for antique treasures and one-off homeware pieces, or sniff out the delicate and fragrant old English roses the nurseries themselves boast, amongst other flora.
The kitchen at Petersham has attained a number of Michelin starred chefs over the years, and prides itself of serving up the very best of the seasons, with consciously-sourced produce and ingredients. Twinkling chandeliers and charming curios adorn the café, or settle amongst the ferns and succulents in the glass Teahouse for a cup of something hot, and slice of something sweet.
Seasonal workshops, wine tastings, and tours of Petersham House also operate throughout the year.
