London loves a pop-up, especially when there is food involved. So, when culinary sorcerers, Bompas and Parr, team up with legendary ice cream makers, Häagen-Dazs, you know you’re in for a whimsical, multi-sensory food extravaganza!
On an overcast London afternoon that was in need of a little brightening, I headed down to the one-day only ‘My Extraordinary Life‘ pop-up at Noho Studios to see what fanciful creations were to be found (and, of course, tasted).
Think level-up sprinkles, heightened smell and taste sensations and plenty of photography opportunities; combining playful, nostalgic flavours with today’s modern fascination of food photography. More on that, later…
In the meantime, allow me to take you on a little tour.
Existing fans of Häagen-Dazs will already be familiar with its range of classic flavours but this was the first time that matcha green tea had been made available outside of the Asian market (you might be able to see a little of that unmistakable green peeking through in this shot!).
[*Update* Matcha Green Tea ice cream will be available at the Häagen-Dazs pop-up boutique at St Pancras station until 30th September 2017.]
With a cone scooped to the brim in hand, sprinkles galore awaited to add the finishing touch your ice cream masterpiece; ready for the cameras.
The creatives behind Bompas and Parr created an Instagram-able menu featuring ice cream-based canapés and cocktails (salted caramel White Russian and an ice cream arancini, anyone?), all to be photographed in specially created photo-friendly sets. From monumental ice cream volcano, to flamboyant exotic fruit table and blossoming peony waffle cone tower; the latter being the perfect springlike backdrop to a pair of champagne saucers…
Stirred into the (cocktail) mix for the event was a photography competition and creativity, evidently, knew no bounds. A gallery of some of the snaps taken are over on Instagram under the filter #MyExtraordinaryLife, with a few of my personal favourites (and some of the day’s winners!), below.
The ‘My Extraordinary Life‘ pop-up marked the start of a vibrant brand refresh for Häagen-Dazs in the UK and just in time for summer, too.
Don’t worry if you missed the action this time around. I’ll be heading to the Wimbledon tennis championships with Häagen-Dazs (the official ice cream vendor) later this season for more.
See you there for strawberries and (ice!) cream.
