With its iconic blue domed rooftops, sun-bleached white terraces and spectacular sunset views, it is difficult to imagine anywhere more quintessentially Greek than the small Cyclades island of Santorini.

Follow me through the cobbled thoroughfares of Oia for some of the island’s most beautiful gems…

The Charisma Suites

The private cave pool suite at the Charisma Suites makes this boutique hotel one of the island’s most unique stays. Situated in Oia’s northern part and overlooking the Caldera rock formation, enjoy uninterrupted and crowd-free views of the world-famous Santorini sunset. Cocktails here are not to be missed.

Santorini Yachting Club

If you thought the views from Santorini’s cliff-edge villages were spectacular, wait until you see them from the water. Charter a ride from the Santorini Yachting ClubΒ and sail around this diverse, volcanic island. White Beach, Red Beach, and the island’s hot springs are all accessible by boat.

Ammoudi Bay

Enjoy today’s catch on the waters edge down at Ammoudi Bay. This little cove is home to some of the island’s best seafood restaurants and a great spot for catching the sunset. A cobbled, 300-step donkey path will get you there from Oia.

Boutiques

Oia’s main thoroughfare, Nik. Nomikou, is lined with upmarket, independent boutiques. Find everything from locally-made glassware and ceramics, to crisp linen clothing and delicate, handmade jewellery pieces. A magpie’s paradise.

‘Luxe’ for free

Oia is famed for it’s sunset views and some of the best can be found just by wandering off the main footpaths. This town is not short of little rooftop tavernas either so, alternatively, make a reservation in advance and enjoy the sunset over dinner and glass of wine.

The Red Bicycle restaurant, serving up a modern take on traditional Greek food on it’s pretty terrace, also sits atop a famed blue dome.

Finally, what could be more ‘luxe’ than having the place to yourself?

Early risers will know that the morning is the best guarantee of crowd-free holiday snaps. Some popular photo spots in Santorini draw queues through the day (yes, really!), particularly during wedding season.
