For me, autumnal dressing is all about mixing up layers and different textures to seamlessly transition your style from summer to winter. Whilst a new season also means there is space in my wardrobe for a few new pieces, I still want to style up some staple favourites that I wear from year to year, season to season.
The secret to maximising your wardrobe is investing in new season additions that are style-forward, rather than trend-led. These are the pieces that are classic, neutral in tone, and in lovely, premium quality materials like delicate silks, pure wools, and supple suedes.
I’ve partnered with YOOX, part of the Net-A-Porter group, to create a luxe look for less, by incorporating some key items for A/W with my existing wardrobe.
Shall we take a look at my picks?
Autumn marks the start of coat season but this cape – a purchase made a few seasons ago – is a lovely alternative. There are really only a few seasons a year that the London weather permits wearing it, so I try to make the most of warmer autumn days! I love it styled with this pretty ecru coloured blouse by Rebecca Minkoff; the first of my YOOX picks. At under £100 and in pure silk, I know this is something I will wear for many seasons to come. Paired with some tailored trousers, it would be completely work appropriate or worn un-tucked with a blazer at the weekend would be equally chic, but casual.
Isn’t the pussy-bow detailing gorgeous? It definitely completes this look for me!
Autumn is also firmly the start of boot season (hoorah!) and my second YOOX pick is this pair of suede ankle boots by Dune. With a mid-height block heel, and in classic black, they are the kind of boots that work equally well with a pair of favourite jeans, or with a lovely skirt or dress, made weather-appropriate with sheer black tights. The best part of this is, of course, the illusion of height! Like a good coat, I always think that boots are a particularly good investment if you’re buying anything in preparation for colder weather. A timeless pair like this will see you through many seasons, outfits, and occasions.
The whole look is brought together with a blazer that has been a wardrobe favourite for some time, and a classic leather top-handle tote that is timeless in colour and shape.
